Feel free to skip it, although I'll hate you for it.

I'm 15 (only) and since I have been fascinated by aircraft. Just recently, I went for something called a "Discovery Flight" at the airport. You and a pilot jump in a Cessna 172N and walks you thru it all. I got to go thru all the safety checks with the pilot, I did the taxi'ing, he took off, I flew, he landed, I parked it. So I figured i'd give simulations a go. "Cool story, brah" finished.

Of course I am an action junkie, so I decided to go with this... probably not for first timers :p Fairly more complex then a Cessna. I HAVE flown a flight sim before (FS2004), but not... properly. I'm trying to figure out what the hell im doing and what is going on. So a push in the right direction would help...

Now, being a stupid little noob, I have one of these rather then one of your 500,000,000$ X52's:



What is the best thing I can do with these buttons in your eyes? I fiddled around what I hoped would be the right controls, but no fruition. Only weapon I could seem to fire was my Vulcan 20mm. Those switches go both up and down, and the center knob has 2 settings. If you can come up with something decent, that would be sexy. And no, I don't have TrackIR/any other super special shat.

I finally got FF5.5 to install and actually load.(First time I tried when FF5.5 came out I couldn't get into game for some reason. I'm using Windows 7 and I made sure to tick the Admistrator Rights box upon install this time and now the game will load)

I thought I'd finally be able to play this as it actually loads the program and I can access the menus and settings and such but when I actually go to play the sim, I have graphical problems that make it unplayable. I'll get a few cockpit guages that show up, wierd skewings of color, half the screen be filled with rainbow pixels or even just a blue screen.

Is this a video card driver issue? I'm running Windows7 and I have an Nvidia GTX275 video card. Just 2 quick questions:-

a) In orbit view, my plane's engine sound sometimes goes off and comes back on, kind of like intermittent at times. Should I uncheck some sound options like doppler effect, 3D sound, new engine sounds, etc, to correct this?

b) When I switch to target view (eg, enemy plane), I see the plane's label first but it takes like 1-2secs before the plane appears. Should I change some GFX settings to resolve this?
